Testimonials from REAL RedPlate owners

Quick note to tell you that the Magica work perfectly at the gig this weekend. Never touched the boost once. Actually ended up only using the Clean channel one time because once I discovered how well the Gain 1 channel cleaned up with the guitar volume knob there was never any reason to switch over. Utilized the Gain 2 channel a couple times but basically I lived on the Gain 1 channel all night. Utilized the volume knob on my guitar along with a Bigfoot Engineering “Trouble Booster”. This is a passive treble booster that is required to be placed after another pedal that has a buffer. So I place it right after my Shure wireless receiver. It cleans up well too and allows me to have that clean tone with dirt right there if I dig in.

During the night I flipped the switch under the amp to the “d” setting and never looked back. This was what I have been looking for for some years now. It changed the placement of the mid’s frequency perfectly for me and my picking technique. I have always had some problems, at higher volumes, with harsh frequencies on the high strings due to the way I strike/pick the high strings during single note lines while playing lead. I never said a word to the rest of the band but they “ALL” noticed and so did a couple guys in the crowd.

Could not have been a better night to put this amp through its paces. We were playing in a club right on the town square where the town had a big festival going on. They had four bands that day with the headliner being the country band, Diamond Rio. Once they were done the already packed bar got even more packed and by the time the night was over I was smiling ear to ear at all the compliments I got on my tone. It was addictive!!!

Only one thing better than having a Redplate, …having two.
Thanks Again.

Five stars!  A top quality boutique amp builder with many models to choose from. Keith is the main man at the small shop which builds to order. If you are serious about tone as a guitarist , it is worth checking this company out.

I played a great gig tonight. It’s always nice when I get compliments about my tone. This time, the guys from the sound company were very complimentary of my rig and tone. Quote…”The best guitar tone we’ve heard in years. It was a pleasure to mix that tone in the band”. My playing is OK, but I’m so proud of my tone. Rich, fat, warm, harmonic, articulate. Just awesome! Thank you for helping me find my tone and inspire my playing.

Chris Conte, playing an OpenRange

Hey Keith,

Just wanted to get back to you and say thanks for THE BEST SOUNDING AMP I’VE EVER OWNED!!

I needed to take some time with it and find my zone, particularly with the overdrive channel, but I’ve found it and it sounds and feels amazing. It took me a while to get my ears around that accentuated mid “Dumble” tone and make it work for me but once I hit he sweet spot it was all over!

The clean channel is a no brainer. It sounds good no matter what you do to it. Best cleans I’ve ever had! Finally solves that Fender clean thing where you want the sparkle of a blackface but without the “poopy” low end. The highs are crystal clear and articulate, perfectly balanced with the mids, while the lows remain powerful and super clear with tons of definition. It takes all my pedals very well and with very little adjustment from the settings I used with my Dr. Z MAZ 38. I don’t know how you guys did it but you built something very special that I have never heard anywhere else. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I’ve been in the Redplate family for 8 years now and there isn’t any amp like it. It’s the only amp I use and it never lets me down. I own a BlackVerb 100 and a BlackVerb 50 and both amps have stunning clean tones, soaring sustain, and they are very touch sensitive which really brings out the dynamics in your playing.  Switching to Redplate Amps made me a better player.

Look at those babies!  It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.  Every night when I walk on stage and hit that first note, I know my 1×12 RedPlate TweedyVerb bad boys are about to deliver a huge knockout punch to the audience.

For those who have been fortunate to play a RedPlate Amp, we know these are very special.  Hand wired, detailed oriented boutique amps. RedPlate makes unbelievable stuff!

I have the RedPlate Magica and it’s incredible.  It’s the one amp to rule them all for me.  I do a lot of diverse stuff – musicals, session work
– from blues and funk to progressive metal.  I use the Magica for all of it.

I have two RedPlate amps: TweedyVerb, and a BlackVerb KT-88. (this is the 80 watt version of the BlackVerb, built with KT-88 tubes). It’s hard to describe how good these amps are, especially the BlackVerb KT-88, without sounding like a poser. But I’ll say this. I’ve owned top of the line amps, like: Two-Rock Classic 3, Mesa Boogie Mark V, Mark I, RoadKing, LoneStar Special (I still own one of these), TA30, Reinhardt, Dr. Z, Joe Twist, Suhr Badger, and many others. All of them were superb amps…but…My RedPlat BlackVerb is my live gig amp. It is a stunning work of design, hand built, PTP hand wired, and flawless execution. It starts out with sparkling cleans, no matter what volume, and then you can dial in any amount of gain. There is a second gain section that allows you to push it into crushing gain with pristine tones. I can’t say enough about RedPlate Amps. Contact Henry and try one for yourself. Quality, Quality, Quality.

RP50R – After two live outdoor gigs with this amp, I am hooked. Still figuring out a little bit of the dialing in on it, but I had more than a
handful of people including a couple sound guys ask me “What the hell is that thing???” They were pretty amazed at the amount of big sound coming out of that little box. And I honestly didn’t really have the master up more than about 10 o’clock. So, just saying THANKS as it’s really a great amp. And I have removed three pedals from my board that I used to use to cascade gain stages. Now, my pedal board literally has my wireless, a small clean boost just if I want a little more hitting the front end, a volume and a wah. The RP50R took off my OCD, my Bogner Ecstasy Blue, and my Keeley Red Dirt. Killer amp – thanks again! In due time I’ll post up some vids of it but am absolutely floored with how well she handled whatever I threw at her. Not used to being able to get USABLE cleans and dirt from the same amp. My Carol-Ann came close – the gain channels are really nice on that. But the clean channel on the RP50 seals the deal! Best regards,

Scott E.

Hi Henry!  Just wanted to let you know that we’re recording our new record at Blue Rock Studios outside of Austin in Wimberly Texas.  I have the Tweedy Verb in tow.  I recorded all of my electric tracks on it today.  We’re broadcasting the whole recording process on the internet as well as making a new video each day to recap that day’s song. The Tweedyverb is blowing everyone’s minds. Thank you so much for all the support!

BlackVerb88 – holy, moly.  This amp is absolutely amazing.  I’ve owned some of the best amps ever made.  Two-Rock Classic, Mesa Lonestar Special/Roadking/TA-30/Mark V/Roadster/Mark I, Reinhardt 18, Dr. Z Remedy/Maz 18, Zinky Blue Velvet 50, Suhr Badgers 18/30/35, Fender Deluxe Reverb,  etc. This BlackVerb88 is simply the finest I have played.  I’m still working with all the dynamics and learning how to best set it up, but I love this beast. Stunning, powerful, articulate, CLEAN, sparkly, smooth, and on and on. Well done and thank-you.

Bill S.

Custom Magica – RedPlate guys – You were more than accommodating with my purchase of the Magica-R amp and built a beautiful piece of equipment.  My sincere thanks for the cooperation with my requests on the amp build, and all of the wonderful comments about the people and products that are RedPlate Amps is overwhelming true.  I hope that we have the chance to meet in person so I can thank you personally.  Best regards,

Jeff S.

I couldn’t be happier I love your amps as this is my second one the first being a blackverb combo which I still have love and play.
I have been playing the Aurora losing track of time and playing into the wee hours! Thanks for building such great amps.

Jeff R.

Magica –  I have to say, this amp is pretty much everything I’ve been searching for in a channel switcher; it’s taken me many years, but I think I’ve finally found everything I’m looking for in the Magica!

Josh W.

BlackVerb- Keith and you did a great job updating and repairing my amp. I haven’t been able to stop playing it since it arrived, and I know the job you did cost far more than what you actually charged me. Your customer service is flawless in a flawed world, and you will always have my endorsement and my future business. You guys are the best!

Charles H.

BluesMachine- Got a real appreciation for the art of the build in the guts.  WOOOW!!!  Fabulously interesting on the choice of resistors, looks like every single one was chosen for where it is positioned as to what its function is, expected different ratings, but did NOT expect so many types.  Also noted the liberal use of adhesives to keep things from moving around and possibly to limit microphonic behaviors with certain components.  Did I get it right that the smaller board adjacent to the pre sockets has the grid stoppers right on the sockets instead of some distance away?  I think that I’m seeing a lifetime of experiences in that layout.  I’m flabbergasted.  Ken Fischer, (RIP) would like the short signal path, and Merlin Blencowe would also be pleased, IMHO at what is inside. It’s like a retard looking at the work of a master, I’m that humbled.

I purchased the Astro Dust, and Henry, let me complement you on such a fine product: it is incredible in every way. Not only does
it bring out characteristics in my guitars that I hadn’t heard before, it can produce almost any tone I want. But the most impressive thing is the control over the gain. You can leave it wide open and change the whole character of the sound from your own touch and dynamics on the guitar. It’s a musical instrument in itself. I’ve never found an amp that can give such big, clear and saturated tone while not obliterating the sound’s character by needing heaps of distortion to create that saturation. I will sing your praises far and wide. Best wishes

Ed H.

Well I have had my new rp50duo for over a week now and it is even more amazing than last week. The tone and versatility are beyond
description. I have been playing over three hours a day since its arrival, my girlfriend is even jealous of your amp. So when you guys at the shop are having one of those days when you are overwhelmed and wondering if it’s all worth it… I am here to tell you that the service you are providing building these amps for guitarists is truly awesome. Thank you again

Michael H.

I have a CDS2 – the only amp I’ve played for the last 1.5 years, and still loving it just as much as day 1! That says a lot for someone who’s moved through a lot of amps. So awesome.

Excellence, craftsmanship, experience and tone are how I would describe Redplate amps. These guys have a stock of magic powder that they sprinkle on their amps. I recently bought an amp (An RP50D) from these guys so I can speak from experience when I say that these guys are the real deal. They will customize any amp they make to your taste and your style. I wanted my amp to get the most tones possible from a recording amp and sweet GOD it does that. I’ll spend 6 months with this amp and not find all of the tonal abilities that it has. It you’re looking for an amp that you will pass on to your kids and use for the rest of your life, these are them. It’s only a matter of time before the greater guitar world discovers this gem of a shop and the value of them shoots through the roof.

For those who have been fortunate to play a Redplate amp, we know these are very special, hand wired, detailed oriented boutique amps. Henry met me at his shop on a Sunday (9/21/14) and I put a new el-34 hot rodded british flavor -called the “Savoy” thru its paces. This amp just makes you feel good inside. It’s what marshalls are to sound like. I mean the real good ones I only hear on classic albums. Thick, juicy, stringy, sustain for ever. Really really good! It is 50w (&18w switchable) dual channel (lead) head or combo. Redplate makes unbelievable stuff!

Cudos to everyone!. The Red Plate build is an art form! I know…I’m an electronic hobbyest (at best) and the build quality on this amp is incredible. Mike great job man! Thank you for your personal touch. It is really the best amp I’ve ever played through! And I’ve had some very fine amps in my life (my first amp was an old Fender Deluxe, then a 70’s Music Man, Soldano, Fuchs, Brown Note, Egnator…The Red Plate OpenRange2 surpasses them all! I’m really happy with this amp.! The right choice for me for sure!

I couldn’t be more thrilled.  I own and have owned a bunch of high end and boutique amps and I have to say this is now one of my absolute favorites.I’ve never heard so much big tone, VARIETY of tones and big volume in such a small, lightweight package.I’ve been putting off getting a small 1×12 “grab and go” amp because I assumed I would have to compromise and accept a small-sounding boxy tone for portability and light weight. There is NO compromise with the CD Special in spite of it being the most compact and lightweight amp I’ve ever owned. I have no idea how you’ve done that… but a big kudos to you. I have owned a lot of gear, ran a music store, repaired guitars, and now play professionally full-time. When I got the amp I plugged it in, made sure it worked, and packed it in the car for Wed’s gig….it’s been on every gig I’ve had since then! I’ll forgo the hyperbole, and state it simply..for me, this is the best tool I own.

Dude. This amp sounds beautiful with my strat. Beautiful. I cant get rid of this Fender SuperSonic 22 head fast enough. I think I have all the amp I will ever need now. I will send you a link when I get it in to the studio to do some recording. (I think I will keep my beloved Silvertone 1484 as a backup… in case this one gets stolen… because I doubt the Magica will ever break.) Thanks again, Well worth the wait.

Steven W.

This AstroDust is one of the most fun, and best sounding amps I have ever played.  When I say “fun”, I’m trying to refer to the incredible amount of picking dynamics and sensitivity the amp has, even on higher gain settings.  It feels so much more organic, really like another instrument, and adds a layer of “depth” to playing; not only can I go up and down the neck, and up and down on my guitar volume knob, but now I can go “in and out” a lot more with my pick attack and fretting hand, creating different levels of heard gain and distortion.  Way too much fun to navigate around and explore.

Chad L.

We just finished day 2 of the first real recording session I’ve been able to use the amp for. There isn’t much to say, really. You nailed it. This is exactly what I was looking for. A much classier, more musical sounding version of go-to modern high gain amps (by which I mean it has tons more note definition and midrange clarity than a SLO or 5150). I never engage the tone stack, and don’t plan on ever doing so. The amp sounds best wide open, with as little in the signal path as necessary. Leaving the tone stack out also means that the (really, really great) cleaner side of the amp can be played at very high volumes, so if you don’t mind twiddling knobs (not a problem for studio applications, which is my primary concern) the amp’s actually pretty versatile, and there’s no need to keep a 2nd ‘clean’ amp on standby. 100 percent satisfied here. Couldn’t be happier.

Dreux R.

My BlackVerb really surpasses all amps I used to know. Couldn’t stop testing every knob positions, ingenious. Couldn’t stop playing. Wish you could see my honest grinning. Bad news: It’s just like a drug: my fingertips are bleeding now and I had to stop playing. Now I’m facing hard times to wait for healing success. I dare say: “this is it”!! Without any exaggeration, this amp really sings with my strat. Best regards from a happy red plate amp player.

Roland R.

Regardless of guitar or idiom, the amp delivers, responds and allows me to concentrate on what I’m playing; I couldn’t ask for anything more. If possible, your amp ( now mine..lol) has exceeded my expectations.

David B.

First let me thank you for making the amp that I have dreamt of playing through.  I can’t begin to describe the shear joy of listening to and playing through this amp.  It covers all the tones that I long to hear from my guitars and then some.  I’ve played through a variety of non boutique and boutique amps only to be disappointed.  I’ve opened for Joe Bonamassa, getting a complete run down of his gear and listening up close and yet the tones that I can cover from this one amp to me are more desirable.  It just fits.  It sounds balanced and perfect right out of the box and this was used and not even “voiced” to my specs.  And dudes, I’m playing through a cab and speaker not necessarily even voiced for the amp .. Unreal .. I could go on and on and on, but bottom line .. thank you, thank you, thank you. I am now saving up to buy another.

David M.

BlackVerb – I´m from Portugal, i have a Redplate Blackverb, excellent amp ;)One of the best i ever played…i already have suhr, bad cat, custom audio amplifiers, cornford, fuchs, mesa boogie, fender, etc. And this one is really special and versatile.

Filipe G

Bad news with my Blackverb. . . .My Mesa, Bad Cat, Allen encore, have received zero play time since I’ve dialed the Verb in. This thing is awesome! Nice job!!

Andrew M.

I’m no pro or industry expert, but in a matter of minutes (especially with my Dad’s original ’62 Strat), I was in territory that I have never-ever been before! The shimmer and chime, and bellowing harmonics so vastly exceed anything I’ve ever had the fortune of playing, its flippin’ ridiculous! I have purchased no less than six (6) different amps in the past five years, and I’ve strongly considered a plethora of others, hoping to get this caliber of sonic excellence, and it has simply never happened until now. For example, in all likelihood, I would have eventually purchased a Bruno or Fargen or Komet Constellation (the latter being especially well-noted for these kinds of harmonics), but I can say with confidence that that journey is now officially done. Honest to God! You once mentioned that this Blackverb would likely reduce all of my pedals to obsolescence, and it has certainly done that, almost immediately, but it has also ‘immediately’ dismissed my need for entire amplifiers including all of the following which I currently own . . . ’65 DRRI, Goodsell Super-17, Reinhardt Storm-33, Magnatone 480, and probably my Carr Rambler. By any standard of measure we choose, that level of displacement would be classified as “revolutionary”.

Joseph S.

Hello Henry – Holy #$%^&* !!!!!!!  I just spent a half hour with the CDS2 dialing in sound after sound and then I hit the boost for kicks – and then the overdrive!!!! I know you must hear this all the time but this is the BEST amp I have ever played through!!! Thank you so much !!!

Ken L.

TweedyVerb+ – I’ve had quite a few compliments about it, you don’t see many of them in England, One guy said he assumed it was coming through the PA and couldn’t believe all that sound was coming out of “that little amp”! It has more than enough volume for the pubs and clubs we play and as you say it really sings!

L.T.

Have I told you what a perfect amp you built for me (BlackVerb88)? Everyday i’m blown away with these tones from Heaven. This is the best amp I’ve e played through!!!
